Fishing Report: Bottom fishing opener January 01, 2018

The fishing and crabbing was excellent, big ling cod, lots of aggressive fish, doubles at times, thirty very full crab for three pots.  This was how my two best angling friends did fishing out of Garibaldi, I got a firsthand report.

I waited with great anticipation for the date, and greeted the new year in bed, with the flu, no, not a 24-hour flu, the real deal. The ocean does not look like it will be cooperating with hopeful anglers/crabbers the weekend of January 6th and 7th.  Also, be aware of large tide swings this time of year, which can lead to bar restrictions and or closures at times.
