Fishing Report: Astoria Aug 9th
Met my friend Pat Jones, from Portland Marine Electronics, at the East Basin boat launch at 5:00 a.m. We took his boat, it was nice to drive down from Portland without a boat behind me. Given the bar report, and ocean forecast, we decided to head for the ocean. The ride out was very comfortable, good conditions. Started fishing off the lighthouse, in about 80' of water. Several other boats were around us, but we did not see any action until Pat's reel started screaming. He reeled in a very nice hatchery chinook, about 17 pounds. This did more to wake us up than the coffee did! Fished this area for a little longer, then decided to move out to the green line, and fished between green buoy 1 and 3. The action was consistent, native coho, small chinook, lost fish, and three hatchery coho! We ended the day with the 3 coho, and one nice chinook.
We used fresh anchovies purchased from Tackle Time at the launch. The drive home is always nicer when you have fish for dinner and the freezer. The carcasses are a welcome addition to put in the freezer, and use as crab bait.
This is the second time Pat and I have fished together, first in my boat for bottom fish out of Garibaldi, then today's trip in his boat. Both trips have been very fun and rewarding. I am sure we will fish more together in the future.
If you are considering purchasing a new or used boat I would definitely recommend contacting Pat, tell him FishnSleep sent you!
