Fishing Report: Garibaldi salmon/bottom fishing Saturday Aug 18

Fishing Report: Garibaldi salmon/bottom fishing Saturday Aug 18

With the ocean closed from Leadbetter Pt. to Cape Falcon, decided to go to Garibaldi with my friend Chad, rather than Astoria.  Started the day off of twin rocks, at about 100', using cut plug green label herring and triangle flashers.  In three minutes Chad had a fish on, a native coho, which was released.  At this point I am thinking, this is going to be a great day.  We had one more take down, which did not stick, and after another hour or so, decided to go to Three Arches for some bottom fishing.

I was surprised at the lack of boats, one charter boat, and maybe four or five other boats in the area.  The fishing was slow, could see fish on the sonar, but they were not very willing biters.  Caught a beautiful cabezon, one day late, retention prohibited.  Chad caught two black rock fish, and two very nice ling cod.  Both ling cod were caught on a ten ounce bullet head jig with black curly tail grub.  Did not drop crab pots, although I hear the crabbing is getting better, will bring them for the next trip.
