Columbia River pro trolls and spinners Sep 9th, 2018

I went fishing with Jeff and his wife Inna out of Chinook Landing, near Troutdale, in his well equipped 19’ Alumaweld. We started the day before sunrise, and headed up river towards Crowne Point. We began fishing at daylight. Jeff was the first to get a fish on, not a very violent hit, the fish took a spinner, but appeared to be swimming with it. He fought the fish to the boat, I could see it about 5 feet down in the water. I also unfortunatley saw the spinner pop out, and the fish, after a temporary pause, swim away down into the Columbia River. Inna was next, the takedown was one you would expect on a Pro Troll and Super Bait combination. Line peeling, rod thumping. After a good fight, with the fish making several runs, Jeff netted her beautiful 20 pound salmon, weighed on a digital scale.

Later, in the early afternoon, Jeff’s rod went down again. He offered it to me, I was glad to accept the offer. After another good fight, we landed our second salmon, and decided to call it a day. Glad we went as the river closed to all salmon fishing effective end of day Wednesday, September 12, 2018.
