Fishing Report: Garibaldi Nov 10th

Went bottom fishing with two friends, Todd and David, out of Garibaldi Sunday morning, In Todd's 19' Arima. The weather was surprisingly chilly as we ventured down to Three Arches. The day began with me releasing a nice quill back and David losing a few fish, unknown, probably ling cod, using a large curly tail on a 16 oz jig head.

The action was slow, we landed 3 widow rockfish and one black sea bass. We called it a day somewhat early, do to some engine problems and knowing a large tide exchange was coming later in the day. Here is a recap of the engine problem and the fix which allowed us to eventually return to port under power.

Long story short, the O-ring in the fuel connector to my mercury kicker went bad, causing a system-wide loss of pressure in my fuel system ~9 miles from port. We were dead in the water for a while until one of my mates had the good sense to shut off the fuel toggle to the kicker line, eliminating the vacuum loss and getting fuel pressure back to the main. If you experience a similar loss of pressure, it may be as simple as a bad fitting or a bad fuel line. Install shut off valves on all sides of your fuel filter to shut off flow to a line that could be letting air into the system. And don't rely on aftermarket parts. I picked up an OEM fitting yesterday and it fits so much better than the Moeller version ever did with an O-ring that's noticeably larger. I'll be getting one more as a backup, and another one to replace the fitting on my portable tank (which will never leave the boat again).
