Fishing Report: Garibaldi Jun 10th
Our friend Missy from Utah came to Portland for a visit. She had never done ocean/bottom fishing, although an avid fisher. We headed down on Wednesday night, and met her at the dock Thursday morning. We dropped six pots towards Twin Rocks in about 50’ of water. Then went bottom fishing off of Manzanita. We found fairly consistent action, although we did not limit on lings or bottom fish. We caught several that had to be released, small lings, quillbacks, etc., using a descending device when necessary. We ended the day with one keeper ling cod, 8 canary rockfish, two black sea bass, and five crab. Yes, only five keeper crab for six pots, lots of commercial crabbers working the ocean off of Garibaldi at this time. Missy remarked a couple of times that she was surprised how much work this type of fishing is. I never thought about it this way, but I must agree, would explain why I am so tired at the end of a fishing day. This was a one day trip, back to work on Friday. My wife caught several fish, which she seemed to enjoy, made me happy to have her out on the ocean with me.
These below were keepers, not full limits but nice catch for the rough start to the season.
