Friday July 19th coho and bottom fish
Target: Salmon/bottom fish
Catch: 4 coho/4 ling cod, 4 bottom fish
Fishermen / boat: Glen and Jeff on Glen’s Weldcraft
Left dock at 6:00 a.m. , returned to dock 2:00 p.m.
Rigging: Spinfish 3.0 Lemon Head Glo and bleeding frog/ copper pipe jigs and 5 oz flutter jigs for bottom fishing
Conditions:Very calm
Started fishing about 220’ off Twin Rocks, 23’ on the line counter. The bite was slow at first, moved out to about 260’ and got pretty good action. Jeff used the bleeding frog, and I must say it performed as well as my favorite the Lemon Head Glo. After getting the coho, we decided to run up to Cannon Beach to go bottom fishing. Caught our 4 ling cod, and released several others before calling it a day. It took 1 hour and 2 minutes to come back from Cannon Beach to Garibaldi. Days when the conditions allow going that far north are few, so need to be taken advantage of. We saw whales, mola mola, tons of birds, and some porpoises.
Picture below is off my boat returning to port, south jetty to the left, north jetty to the right. You can just make out the coast guard tower to the right.
