We had heard of tuna 35 miles or so west, but we did not start fishing until about 50 miles out, that is where we found blue 60 degree water. There were several other sport boats, and some commercial boats, so I think we were in the right area. It was not lights out fishing, but what a fun day. We did lose one tuna, which simply came off as being reeled in. Later reports stated that the tuna bite was very good another 5 to 10 miles west, we did not go any farther west, wanted to keep a good safety margin with our fuel.
I had forgotten what a chore it is to process and can the tuna, a lot of fun, but very time consuming. For the next trip, I will be paying to have my tuna canned, if I choose to can it, rather than freeze it. Open tuna fish sandwiches on Monday night where very very tasty!
