Saturday August 3rd Salmon Fishing
Target: Salmon/bottom fish
Catch: 3 coho, 1 chinook, no bottom fish.
Fishermen / boat: Glen and Todd on Glen’s boat.
Left dock at 5:30 a.m. , returned to dock 12:00 p.m.
Rigging: Spinfish 3.0 Lemon Head Glo and Double Trouble 4.0. For flasher Todd used a Shortbus Hallucinator, I used a pink one with a chrome stripe that I had made. Started fishing about 100’ northwest of Nehalem, Todd got his two hatchery coho fairly quickly, then the bite dies, we decided to go drift Manzanita for lings and bottom fish, no luck, pretty strong winds from the north. Decided to troll back staying between about 120’ and 160’ . We got the third coho, on a double hook up, lost one. Then at 11:50 a.m. I got a very nice, 33” long chinook. Got to love coho fishing an hour with no action, then a double, appears they definitely school up together.
Conditions: Moderate seas, a little rougher than forecast.
