Fishing Report: Plenty of sun...and water

Took a vacation day Friday May 11, 2018 to go springer fishing.  Launched out of Cathederal Park about 6:00 a.m.  Fished four rods till about 8:00 a.m. then two rods, friend had to go to work, until about 1:00 p.m.  Did not get any action at all, using green label cut plug behind Sweet Abby flashers.  Over 100 boats easy, saw one boat lose one, that's it.  Very slow fishing.  So, like any optimistic angler I figured I just needed to change locations and I would be successful Saturday.  Launched from Gilbert River boat ramp about 6:00 a.m.  The road leading to the ramp was flooded, maybe 18" to 24" of water.  Fished this area briefly, about 8:00 a.m. hooked boat to the trailer and went to Willamette Park.  Fished from about 9:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. there, no action at either location.  The current was very strong in the lower Multnomah Channel, and there was no current at Willamette Park area.   Fish checker at Willamette Park had 0 fish checked Thursday, 3 Friday, and 2 Saturday, according to reports I received.

Looks like it is time to look for a calm ocean, and pursue bottom fish until conditions in the river improve.  I have heard that a few salmon are being caught in Tillamook Bay, this could present another option.
