Fishing Report: Garibaldi bottom fishing Saturday May 19, 2018

With a beautiful ocean forecast I headed west with Jeff and Brian at 4:00 a.m. from Portland.  Our hopes were high, had been receiving reports of good fishing.  Watched the bar forecast on Friday morning, no restrictions, so figured Saturday should be unrestricted also.  Was a little concerned because of large tides occurring.  Had to relocate once or twice to find a bite, and marked a few spots on the GPS.  It was then only a matter of time before we had our 15 bottom fish and a few ling cod.  Then, we targeted just ling cod.  I fished a 20 ounce jig that Brian had reeled up from the bottom (See Picture), it worked quite well.  Jeff and Brian were using large curly tails with heavy lead heads.  Finished the day early with six lings and the bottom fish, released some orange fish, and some small lings.

We were able to return to port before the charters and only had to wait about 25 minutes for Kelly the Blade, not Kenny, sorry Kelly, to fillet our fish.  Then back to Portland for a much needed nap.  Back at work wondering what is next, salmon, more bottom fish, or perhaps try for halibut, which will be open in the Central Coast Subarea May 24 to May 26, 2018.
