Fishing Report: Garibaldi Coho slow bite Jun 29 & Jun 30
Headed to Garibaldi Friday June 28, 2019 for a weekend of fishing. On Saturday Ashley and Gustavo joined me. We caught several native coho, released, and Gustavo lost a large chinook at the boat. With the barbless hooks you really need to keep constant pressure on the fish, a bend in the rod, the coho are professionals at shaking hooks loose, adds to the excitement. Although we took no fish home, it was a great day, the ocean was calm, and the sun was shining.
On the 30th my wife and I slept in, and headed fishing mid morning. Much to my surprise in about 30 seconds I had a fish on, a nice hatchery coho, in the box. We fished for a few more hours, and I released a native coho. This was a nice leisurely day compared to the normal of getting up at 4:00 a.m. and getting on the ocean at first light.
The Barview Store in Rockaway Beach has a very nice selection of quality bait, for our fishing we were using cut plug green label herring purchased from the store. I hear their pizza is excellent, although we did not try any on this trip.
