Fishing Report: May 23rd & May 24th Garibaldi Bottom Fishing

Took our travel trailer down to Garibaldi Thursday May 21, 2020, did not fish Friday, just enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the area. We stay at the Port of Garibaldi RV Park, which is very close to the boat ramp, we can actually watch the action from our window, while enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning.

My friend Jim has his 19’ Arima moored at Garibaldi, on Saturday we decided to run North off of Cannon Beach in search of ling cod and bottom fish. We did get all our bottom fish limit, but only one ling cod, not sure what happened, but we did release several very small ling cod, hopefully a good sign for the future. We dropped 3 crab pots around Twin Rocks, but only managed 2 keeper crab, several small and females in the traps.

On Sunday, we decided to try nearshore for halibut for a while, no luck here, hearing that anglers are getting 20 pound halibut 30 or so miles out. We then did some exploring, jigging for bottom fish and ling cod, we managed a few more bottom fish and called it a day. Headed back to Portland Sunday evening, to enjoy a quiet Memorial Day at home. Have the RV there till the end of June, hoping for good ocean conditions and improvement in the fishing and crabbing, although it is always fun and relaxing just being at the coast.
