Fishing Report salmon & bottom fish Garibaldi, Jun 5th & 6th
Towed boat down Thursday night from Portland. Slept in Friday morning, rough ocean, and got invited to join Captain Jim on his Arima for some salmon fishing. I got very lucky in the bay, Ghost Hole area, and hooked and landed a hatchery coho, not very large, about 4 pounds, but a very fiesty fish. I love the fight in the coho! In the bay, you can retain only hatchery salmon at this time, outside any chinook, but no coho, fin clipped or not. The regulations can be confusing, and seem to always be changing. Jim also got a salmon, a very nice chinook, about 17 pounds. We were using cut plug herring and triangle flashers. Thanks for the trip Jim!
On Saturday, had Todd drive down from Portland with hopes of going down to Three Arches, the bar was restricted to 16 and under, so we ventured out in my 20’ Weldcraft Angler. It was a rough ride down, rough all day in fact. We did manage to find a large school of canary fish, and got two limits, 9 canary and one black sea bass. Then we went back inside, and fished the ghost hole for a few hours, with no luck, there was a lot of seaweed, and constantly reeling in and cleaning the line got tiring. Forecast for Sunday was not good, so headed back to Portland Saturday night.
Now…time to plan for the next weekend adventures. Tides look very soft, and ocean conditions appear to be looking favorable.
