Fishing Report: Bottom Fish May 31st
Woke up in the Garibaldi RV Park and the bar was unrestricted, so went fishing with Captain Jim in his 19’ Arima. We decided to go a little deeper in search of ling cods. We did not find any ling cod, but did get our limits of bottom fish, with some nice yellowtail rockfish in the mix. I learned something today, when fishing deeper water, 200’ to 240’ even a 16 oz jig or copper pipe jig may not be enough weight. Next time I go I will be more prepared, and be sure to have some heavier, perhaps 20, 24 or 32 ounce jigs to make sure I can get to the bottom efficiently and be able to jig straight up and down. This is important to avoid snags, which are more common when your line is out at an angle.
It was a little rough, but we still had a very nice day, and were able to provide some fresh fish for the table. Back to Portland, and time to plan the next weekend trips.
