Garibaldi Jul 16th and 19th
My friend Todd took his 19 Arima down to Garibaldi for a long weekend on Friday. I agreed to fish with him on Friday and Monday, other weekend plans with family were in place. On Friday, we had a great day, caught our four hatchery coho early, same area as before, about 175’ to 200’ of water off of Twin Rocks, and went North to Cannon Beach, after moving one time, we found some nice keeper ling cod, ended up with four. They were caught using an 18 ounce baseball bat jig, because it looks like a baseball bat. I bought a mold for pouring these, and plan to add them to the web site at some point. Feel free and email me at fishnsleep@gmail.com with any questions about these jigs.
Todd went solo on Saturday and got his two hatchery coho once again. On Sunday, he got one hatchery coho in the same area. Monday was a bit of a struggle as well, I ended up with two hatchery coho and Todd did not get any, although he did lose a very nice one right at the net. We both saw that the adipose fin was missing. Seems the water temperature has been fluctuating a lot between about 48 and 54 degrees, I would imagine this accounts for some of the inconsistency. It is still early in the season for coho, and it looks like it should be a great season. Planning on going back to Garibaldi Friday, July 23rd, but not sure how the bar will be, there are huge tide swings this weekend.
