Garibaldi Coho Sep 24th and 25th

Garibaldi Coho Sep 24th and 25th

Last weekend of the season, non select coho, and good crabbing reports. With this in mind my wife and I headed down to Garibaldi Thursday in hopes of one last ocean fishing weekend, before we towed the boat home. Late departure due to weather, left the dock about 10:00 a..m., dropped the crab pots, three of them, and were fishing about 10:30 a.m. Began fishing southwest of Twin Rocks in about 150’. Put my wife’s rod out, rigged with a Spinfish stuffed with herring guts, and started to prepare the second rod. Look over, her rod is going off, what a start, one coho in the box! Put her rod out again, start getting second rod ready, look over, yup down goes her rod again, now two coho in the box, crazy! The next two coho were caught in about an hour. We went and picked up our pots, had more than 24 crabs, two limits in the three pots, despite a short soak. Were back at the dock about 1:00 p.m. with limits of coho salmon and crab, cannot ask for much more than that. I could get used to the late start method, lol.

On Saturday my friend Todd came down from Portland, we started early and fished hard to get our four coho, we also caught two mackerel, which Todd says are excellent eating. We did not drop pots today, although wish we had in hindsight. Both days were the same set up. Using Spinfish with herring guts, from 23 to 45’ on the line counter, with 10 ounces of weight. Now, to begin making plans for next season.
