Columbia River 360s and Superbaits Fri Sep 17th

Due to very rough ocean conditions decided to stay in Portland for the weekend, despite the non select coho fishery going on at the coast. Went fishing with pro trolls and Superbaits with my friend Rich on Friday. We were fishing upriver having launched out of Washougal. It did not take long for action to start, one takedown, no fish, two takedowns, no fish, three takedowns, no fish, then two fish that required pliers to remove the Superbaits from their mouths. We had launched at about 4:30 a.m. to avoid the crowds, and ran upriver slowly in the dark. At daylight we started fishing and had our second chinook in the box just before 8:00 a.m. We had another boat fishing who we knew, they got their three chinook, but it took them a little longer.

I love this fishery, the takedowns are awesome, since you are trolling about 3 miles per hour, to get the correct action on the pro troll. Also, if a fish does not stick, you do not have to reel up and check bait.

Rich has an almost brand new Duckworth, it is a beautiful, boat, and he has it all set up to fish. It is nice to just show up and be a guest at times, no preparation to worry about, no towing, launching, etc.

Hoping to participate in this fishery at least a few more times before the season ends.
