Garibaldi Coho - First Weekend of any Two Coho Sep 10th, 11th, 12th
My friend Todd came down Friday morning, and we left prepared, in the water, waiting to hear the first bar report, before the sun was up. It was restricted, I do not recall the length but a lot more than the 20’ Weldcraft I have. So we went and fished in the Ghost Hole, (the bay), hoping the bar would open up. It was very weedy, and we were constantly reeling up to clean our gear. I got very lucky while reeling up a hatchery coho grabbed my cut plug herring. It was not a giant, but a legal fish, one in the box. Finally, the bar opened up after tide change, and we and lots of other boaters crossed the bar. We found the fish shallow, in about 90’ to 135’ of water off of Twin Rocks. Then we bottom fished briefly, off of Manzanita, I caught a ling cod and a black sea bass. The winds picked up and we called it a day.
Saturday we again started at daylight, and we struggled to find fish. We fished all depths and areas, only managing one hatchery coho which I caught in about 260’ of water, fishing 32’ on the line counter
Sunday was too rough to fish, so we headed back to Portland early..
