Hagg Lake Trout Mar 6th
The lake was stocked on March 2nd, with 12,000 trout, and Sunday was forecast to be sunny. Perfect time to get the boat out of the garage, it had not been on the water since before Christmas. My friend Chris and I arrived at the lake about 9 a.m. There were a lot of boats and shore anglers enjoying the lake. We began trolling from boat ramp A toward the dam, in about 3 hours we had our limit, 10 trout total. The action was not fast, but it was consistent. The best action came in about 16 to 40 or 50 feet of water, close to the shore. There was still some debris in the lake and visibility was maybe 3 to 4 feet. We were using various spoons, but the crocodile lure, in a rainbow pattern was the most productive, something similar to this: https://www.rapala.com/luhr-jensen/lures/spoons/krocodile/Krocodile.html. We were not using any weight, just flat lining the lure about 40 to 60 feet behind the boat.
I like to get the boat out locally after having it sit for the winter, to make sure everything is still operational, the GPS, sonar, vhf radio, bilge pump, kicker motor, etc. before heading to the salt. Now to wait for a nice ocean window, which appears may be right around the corner, Friday’s forecast is looking good, may head to Garibaldi for some bottom fishing.
