Garibaldi bottom fishing, salmon and crab August 12,13,14 2022

Went to Garibaldi Friday morning, and headed down to Three Arches with my friend Jim. We got there about 8:00 a.m. or so. Jim caught two very nice ling cod, we got three all together. I caught two nice tiger fish. The bite was fairly slow, so we trolled for salmon from about 10:00 a.m. to noon, heading north in 200’ to 240’ of water. Jim got a nice hatchery coho, and I released two native coho. Fishing about 35’ on the line counters, using spinfish 3.0 lemon head glow. Next trip I am going to run a spinfish and a green label cut plug herring, and see what comes out on top. We had dropped 3 pots south of the south jetty in about 40’ of water, and got 22 keeper crab for our trouble. Back to the docks about 1:00 p.m to enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

The next day we had two friends, Brian and May, come down and join us. They were interested in crabbing and salmon fishing. I dropped 6 pots in about 35’ of water north of the north jetty, about half way to Twin Rocks about 8:00 a.m. and returned to the dock. They arrived about 9:30 a.m. and we went to about 200’ and trolled for salmon. 45’ on the line counter with 12 oz of lead using spinfish. We released two native coho, kept one hatchery coho and a large mackerel. We had a couple of other takedowns that did not stick. We fished till about 12:00 p.m. and headed to the crab pots. We had over 48 keepers out of the six pots, I would say about 57 or 58. Only four of us, so we let some go, it was their lucky day.

On Sunday went fishing with my friend Todd, left the docks about 6:00 a.m., we struggled to find fish, went as far out as about 270’ off Twin Rocks, ended the day with 3 hatchery coho, and a few natives released. Water was very warm 63.4 or so, I do not think this helped the fishing. We did not drop crab pots and called it a day at 12:00 p.m.
