Garibaldi Aug 19,20 and 21, 2022
Headed to Garibaldi Thursday evening, fished Friday solo in about 200’ off of Twin Rocks. Using 3.0 and 4.0 Lemon Head Glo Spinfish caught two nice hatchery coho fairly quickly, and called it a day. On Saturday, I had my friend Todd and his two sons, Spencer and Keaton, join me. We left the docks about 6:15, dropped three pots in about 35’ of water half way to Twin Rocks and headed west. The fishing was very very good. At one point, we had a triple, seemed like tuna fishing for a moment, only landed one, a native, which was released. We got all eight of our coho and picked up the crab pots. We had 22 keeper crab from four pots.
We were running the Spinfish 15’ on the line counter, with 12 oz of lead. We used light drags, and tightened them up after hooking a fish. Another great day. Sunday, did another solo trip, did not find fish until 320’ of water, but it was the best coho bite I have ever seen. Literally within 15 or 20 seconds of putting the rod in the holder it was fish on. I caught one hatchery, lost about 8, landed two natives, then caught the largest hatchery coho of my season so far. The coho is closed until September 3rd, when the non-selective coho season opens. I do not think it will be open for long, with the great fishing, it will not take long for the quota to be reached.
Looks like maybe bottom fishing if the ocean conditions allow, or target chinook behind the south jetty next weekend.
