Garibaldi coho and crab Sept 22nd
Met my friend Troy at 6:30 a.m. and headed towards Twin Rocks, on the way, we dropped three crab pots in about 55’ of water. Started fishing northwest of Twin Rocks in about 140’ of water. Nothing happened until we got to 180’ then I got a native coho, at 208’ we got a double, and landed them both, which does not happen very often, At about 220’ Troy got our fourth and final fish, we ended up with three natives and one hatchery.
Other anglers I talked with found the day fairly slow overall, but most got their limits, after putting in several hours of fishing. We picked up our pots with my electric crab pot puller. The first pot had only two keepers in it, not a good sign. On the second and third pot though, you could hear the puller straining against the heavy load, they were packed with crab, no more could have fit in either pot! It took the two of us to get the pots over then gunnel and into the boat. We were back at the dock about 10:15 a.m., time to relax and boil two limits, 24 crab. Saturday and Sunday were not fishable due to changing weather conditions. I hope next weekend the ocean calms down, to allow one last opportunity for another coho/crab combo trip.
