Sunday July 7th, Monday July 8th report
Fished Sunday with Todd in my Weldcraft. Fished for salmon northwest of Twin Rocks. Had to go out to about 300’ before we found any fish. We ended with three coho and a 13.5 pound chinook, weighed on a scale, lol. I caught the chinook in about 300’ of water on a 4.0 Spinfish Lemon Head Glow. It appears the water inshore got much colder, 47 degrees or so. The water at 300’ was in the 52 to 53 degree range. We caught the last fish about 10:30, so went to Manzanita in search of ling cod. I caught one on our first drift. We did a few more drifts with no action, and called it a day about 12:00 p.m.
On Monday fished with Randy is his Northriver. We went straight west to about 360’ to 400’ of water. The water was warm, about 54 degrees, and the action was fast. We had a double right away, both natives, but were still done fishing at about 8:30 a.m. I caught one chinook, legal but not huge, to go with our three coho.
The next good window looks to be July 16 and 17th. Soft tides and low winds.
