Spring Chinook fishing in the Columbia River has been slow. A few spring Chinook are being caught in the Willamette River.
Trout fishing continues to be good in local lakes.
Steelheading in the Columbia and area tributaries is slow.
Fishing for warm water species is slow, although walleye fishing is improving.
"Oregon recreational crabbers will have all of December before the commercial pots go in. Crabbing should be excellent if ocean conditions improve to allow boats ocean access."
Northern pike eat endangered salmon and steelhead. The predator fish are getting closer to prime territory in the Columbia River, threatening to sink millions of dollars in salmon recovery.
At long last, the turbidity in the Willamette came down to a fishable level Sunday. I am sure some people were very entertained at the sight of me reeling up my second rod, getting it out of the way, and trying to net the fish by myself.

Spring Chinook angling on the Columbia River is open from Tower Island powerlines upstream to the Oregon-Washington border above McNary Dam, plus the banks between Bonneville Dam and Tower Island powerlines.
White sturgeon retention is closed from Buoy 10 at the Columbia River’s mouth upstream to McNary Dam but remains an option for catch and released fishing.

Two rods per angler will be allowed for hatchery spring chinook and hatchery steelhead in Tillamook and Nestucca bays and their major river systems beginning May 1.

Inspecting boats coming into Oregon has proven effective so far in keeping aquatic invasive species including mussels, snails and plants out of the state. Rick Boatner, ODFW invasive species coordinator, says it’s extremely important people stop at these stations and get their boats inspected.
The lines entangling the whale were attached to the buoy from a crab trap, which carried a tag issued by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. NOAA Fisheries will work with WDFW to identify the owner of the trap to learn more about where the trap was located and where and for how long the whale was entangled.
Action: Allows a limited recreational retention fishery for white sturgeon in the Columbia River estuary. White sturgeon from 44-inches minimum to 50-inches maximum fork length may be retained.
Effective Dates: Monday, Wednesday, and Saturdays: May 14, 16, 19, 21, 23, 26, 28, 30, and June 2, 4, 2018. Sturgeon angling, including catch and release, closes at 2 p.m. on each open day.
It’s not too late to get your spring Chinook. In fact, several fisheries are just heating up. Check out the Columbia above Bonneville Dam and the lower Rogue. Or, be the first to report catching a springer in the Nestucca or Tillamook bays.
