Fishing Report: Spring Chinook fishing Sunday May 06, 2018
Day two of a fishing weekend, springer fishing in the Willamette
After getting up at 3:30 a.m. yesterday for bottom fishing, getting up at 4:00 a.m. to go Springer fishing felt like sleeping in, no, not at all in reality. Got to the boat ramp around 5:30 a.m. and headed out into the Multnomah Channel, not very crowded, no wait to launch, plenty of parking. I was fishing with my friend Jeff, who is an excellent fisherman, in his boat. Four rods from about 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., cut plug green label herring, hooks with barbs, all that! Truly thought we were going to hook up about 9:30 a.m. when one of the back rod started bouncing. It never went down, when reeled in, no herring, just the barbed hooks. This is springer fishing, the action is slower than salmon fishing in the ocean or bottom fishing, but very rewarding when success is attained. Got a nice sunburn and am already thinking about the next trip, unless the ocean is calm, it is always a tough choice between the two options.
No Salmon today, but beautiful day and great scenery!
