Fishing Report: Garibaldi fishing Jul 28th
Left Portland at about 6:00 a.m. Saturday and headed to Garibaldi. Felt good to sleep in until 5:00 a.m., was waiting for the tide to turn, low tide was at 7:58 a.m. and there were reports of early morning fog: Here was the tide forecast: Saturday, July 28, 2018. Sun 5:55am-8:48pm. high tide 1:22am (8.41ft), low tide 7:58am (-0.76ft), high tide 2:46pm (7.07ft), low tide 7:59pm (2.81ft).
Met my friend Troy at the marina around 7:30 a.m. dropped three crab pots, and headed south to Three Arches. Beautiful ocean, and a smooth bar crossing on the incoming tide. Got four nice ling cod by around 10:00 a.m. and decided to troll for salmon. Went out to 200' line, and zig zagged back towards our crab pots. We were not really making any headway due to the current, decided to reel up and go back to jetty tips. Trolled south back towards our pots, and I got a real nice, hard fighting coho, you guessed it, a native, gently released back without leaving the water. Caught it on cut plug green label herring and a flasher that I made.
Picked up twelve keeper crab out of the pots, a lot of females, and called it a day. Kelly the blade filleted them in short order, and then I headed back to Portland. I think the CR Buoy is calling my name for next weekend.
