Fishing Report: Garibaldi bar restricted
Everyone was in the bay, the Ghost Hole. Getting to the ocean out of Garibaldi is not possible on many occasions. Near the South jetty it is shallow, this tends to make big waves, and a steep ebb chop, depending on tides/winds. The good news is if the bar is closed or restricted you can always crab and fish inside the bay. I prefer fishing and crabbing in the ocean, more room to spread out, and I think it is more productive, overall. People do get along fairly well in the crowded Ghost Hole, which you can see from highway 101. Boats troll back and forth over a fairly specific area, targeting chinook with cut plug herring and triangle flashers, and more recently with pro trolls and spinners. I think the pro troll setup has been more productive, based on fish I have seen caught while fishing the area. I have not caught one chinook in the ghost hole this year, the fishing is challenging.
