Given local conditions, and slow reports from the coast, decided to bottom fish on Sunday, June 3, 2018. Well, about 10 seconds into fishing, Jeff has a fish on, a beautiful Chinook, took a jig on his first drop!
Last Sunday out of Garibaldi. We got our six ling cod in fairly short order, and released a few orange fish and small lings. Weird thing is, never caught even one black rockfish.
Had to relocate once or twice to find a bite, and marked a few spots on the GPS. It was then only a matter of time before we had our 15 bottom fish and a few ling cod.
Got to the boat ramp around 5:30 a.m. and headed out into the Multnomah Channel. This is springer fishing, the action is slower than salmon fishing in the ocean.
The reports of slow, dismal crabbing, were unfortunately very accurate. We only got five keeper crab out of the three pots. Ended the day with a limit of ling cod and bottom fish………
At long last, the turbidity in the Willamette came down to a fishable level Sunday. I am sure some people were very entertained at the sight of me reeling up my second rod, getting it out of the way, and trying to net the fish by myself.

Spring Chinook angling on the Columbia River is open from Tower Island powerlines upstream to the Oregon-Washington border above McNary Dam, plus the banks between Bonneville Dam and Tower Island powerlines.
White sturgeon retention is closed from Buoy 10 at the Columbia River’s mouth upstream to McNary Dam but remains an option for catch and released fishing.
I was not out fishing today, during the one day extension given anglers on the Columbia River. I did have several friends fishing though, and did receive some reports.
Great day, great fishing, good company. Springers are the rage, and I love that fishing, but the scenery and action on the ocean are sometimes too much for me to pass on.
Fishing still very slow but patience is a virtue, and with it you could get a really nice fish!
